Spread the Love….
On the way to work this morning, I got a call from my cuzzo (cousin) Shannon. Now she was calling just before we both had to be at work, and I thought something was wrong. So I abruptly answered, “Hello?!” She said, “Good morning, Cousin! I just called to say I love you, and I hope you have a wonderful day!” My heart completed melted as I exchanged the greeting and same sentiment to her.
It reminded me of a recent episode of Being Mary Jane (yes, I indulge sometimes). In the episode, Mary Jane’s best friend-a psychologist herself, committed suicide. As Mary Jane was asked to give the eulogy, she struggled to come up with the right words to say. It dawned on her that she didn’t have the right words, because she had not had any kind words for her friend in almost a year. For an entire year she ignored, belittled, and scolded her very best friend over the senselessness of sharing feelings for the same man. In the end it not only tore their friendship apart, but ultimately lead to her friend’s self-destruction.
Now you may say, “That would never be me! I would never let a year go by without reaching out to my friends.” But it’s easier than you think. Life happens to the best of us. A time consuming job, a loving relationship, or even a new found friendship often cause us to drift apart from the ones we love. So when (and if) that happens, just like my cousin did-reach out to the people you hold near and dear. Show them you love and care about them. Send flowers, send an e-card, and even a simple post on Facebook will do. Don’t let another day go by without spreading the love!
