Survivor’s Guilt: Accepting Your Miracle

What happens once you Believe?

What happens once you have believed God to be Jehovah Jireh, and he has proven himself to be Jehovah Shalom, and your atmosphere begins to change? What then?

At that point we often experience “Survivor’s Guilt,” that feeling of doubt and un-assurance in the things God has done for us when it’s hasn’t happened or is not happening for others.

For example, my mother is a 26 year double- cancer survivor! That’s right! God performed his miracle twice! Once with breast cancer, and colon cancer the second time around- yet every day she learns of others whose fate was not the same. Sometimes she questions, ” Why me?” Why she survived when others did not.

Another example- Tia Coleman. She is a wife, a mother, and a daughter who lost three children, her husband and other family members in a tragic boat accident. She said this to US News- “I felt like if I was able to get a life jacket I could’ve saved my babies. ” The sad reality is she was meant to survive. Had she tried to save her babies, she may have lost her life in the process.

Let’s also take a look at Job in the Bible! Job experienced loss beyond measure. So much so that he cursed the day he was born! But had he not gone through, his life could not be a testament to others of God’s restoring power and His grace!

I said all this to say we must learn to let go of that feeling of guilt and doubt and walk gracefully into the blessings God has given to us.

First we must recognize our blessing, and acknowledge the ONE who blessed us!-Know that it is God who provides, who shelters, who clothes, who sustains, who heals, who lives, and who made a way where we could not see a way!

Next, we must accept that we are worthy and deserving of every good thing God has in store for us!- You deserve God’s love and grace, and you are worth the blessings he has in store!

Then, we share what God has done in our lives! We overcome by the blood of the Lamb, AND the power of our testimony! We don’t have to succumb to guilt, doubt, or defeat. We can conquer every fear that blocks us from our purpose in Christ!

Finally, we bless others for we are blessed to be a blessing!

God brought you through for a reason, so there is no need to feel guilty for the things He has done! Acknowledge it, accept it, share it, and be a blessing to someone else in need.

With Love and Blessings,
