Delight in the Delay

For anyone who knows me, there’s one thing you know about me, more than likely I’m going to be late! IF you don’t know me, then understand I’m going to be late. For whatever reason my body had no concept of time, and even with an alarm clock I can’t seem to get it right. Even on the days when my body lines up, my kids don’t!
One morning I was about two hours late to a staff event. My boss looked up and said, “I guess I’m just going to have to accept that you are just gonna be late!” I thought to myself, wow, that’s pretty sad. It’s not that my job, church, or appointments are not properties-they are. But I’ve learned that on the mornings/days when it seems like I just can’t get there, I have learned to be patient and delight in the delay.
Those mornings when I can’t find my keys, or the kids lost a shoe, or the car wouldn’t crank, or I just couldn’t get it together, where the days where God just wanted me to be still and know that He was in control. Know that rushing or running can fast forward me right onto a path of destruction. God has kept me from accidents, incidents, run-ins, and run downs. That’s just how good He is to me.
So understand, I’m not telling you to disregard or to disrespect others time. I’m not even telling to change your morning routine if it is working for you. But what I am telling you is that if all things work together for the good of those that love Him, know that every delay is just God’s way of protecting you. So the next time you lose your keys, or you miss your alarm, or even if you have to detour from your normal route- learn to delight in the delay, for it is working for your good.
